Traffic Model

In , Internet traffic charges will be recovered on a consumption basis.

The effective cost per megabyte for offnet traffic will be derived by dividing the AARNET subscription fee and internal operating costs, by the total projected off-net traffic consumption.

Traffic Charging

The following Internet charging model has been adopted:

• On-net traffic will not incur any charge, regardless of volume downloaded.
• Commodity Internet traffic will be offered on a volume basis of 0.4 cents per megabyte.
• Associated and commercial organizations will be charged on a volume basis of 0.4 cents per megabyte for all commodity Internet traffic, however zero cost will apply for on-net traffic.
• Students will not pay for any Internet traffic downloaded via the student quota system.

Network Port Charging

Each live ethernet network port on the University's campuses is charged a weekly usage fee of $1.39 (*) per port. This charge is to cover the operational and maintenance costs of the University network core. Details of network port utilization for each division may be found at the ITS Communications Ports Database.
