Staff may apply for access to modem services via an online form available at
https://wwwcoms.murdoch.edu.au/remote/online/apply.
If you are a staff member that already has access to remote modem services,
visiting the URL above will inform you of whether this is true.
Please note that completion of the online form will trigger an authorisation request, so access will not be immediate and is not guaranteed.
Students are automatically given access to modem services upon enrolment.
Modem users will need a valid Murdoch Username and Password.
In addition to a valid Murdoch Username, users will require;
Instructions to configure Murdoch dialup connections can be found at http://wwwcoms.murdoch.edu.au/dialup/setup.html
All staff will be charged at a standard rate for every hour that they are connected to a Murdoch modem. University account codes will be charged weekly for staff usage. Each modem user willhave a minimum of 60 minutes connection time before being eligible for removal when the modem facility becomes full.
If the staff member wishes a connection that is not terminated, they have the option of using an alternate pool (currently 9360 7901 / 9553 7901). This service is charged to the staff modem user at a premium rate.
Student connections that have been connected longer than 30 minutes will be terminated automatically when the modem facility becomes full . Terminations will proceed until the facility is not fully utilised or when the preserved limit is reached.
Students may minimise forced termination and have unrestricted access
to the Internet by purchasing credits in the
student quota system
. Quota system students who have dialled 7911 and staff who have dialled
7904 have the same connection privileges.

than 36kbps from many Perth suburbs
The maximum reliable connection speed can be markedly REDUCED in winter
or wet weather.
There are numerous settings that the user can change on their modem. All of which can have an impact on the quality of the connection between their modem and ours.
